The Sir Pratap Singh Polo Cup hosted by Maharaja Gaj Singh II of Jodhpur and a luxury brand flagged off the polo season in Delhi a couple of days ago, and how.
An exhibition match preceded the exciting 14 goals final, the second highest level of polo played in the country, for which the city’s well known faces showed up. The game got underway after a throw-in by Neelam Khanna, the retail partner of the luxury brand in India.

It was to have five chukkers (rounds) but an extra one was added to break the tie between the Cavalry-USPA and the Jindal-Saghal teams, which had nine goals each to their credit. The golden goal came from Cavalry-USPA captained by Colonel Tarun Sirohi, breaking the tie and winning the game.
Shallu Jindal was a quiet spectator but friend Seema Jajodia, in contrast, went all loud in her support for the Jindal team. “Go Jindal,” she cheered every now and then.
Maharaja Gaj Singh II was absent from the scene as preparations for his son, Shivraj Singh’s wedding kept him busy back home. “This has been such a lovely game with both the teams playing neck-to-neck. I love the ambience,” said Tanisha Mohan, who had to stay for the entire game as the roads around the race course were closed due to American President Barack Obama’s movement in that area.
The end of the final match was succeeded by trick riding, presentation of the trophy to team Cavalry-USPA and high tea.
